Step: 2 Run Windows Task Manager and End suspicious tasks.

  • Click on the “CTRL + SHIFT + ESC” button at the same time to open the Windows Task Manager.
  • Open “Processes” tab.
  • Try to detect the process that might be dangerous.
  • Right click on each potentially dangerous file and click “Open File Location”.
  • Now, scan each file with your Antivirus or various online virus scanners available online.
  • End the process from the Windows Task Manager if you find any infected file. You should also delete the folder containing the infected file.

Note: It is not possible for every antivirus to detect Cll.Press error. So, you should delete every file and end every task you find suspicious.

Step: 3 Remove suspicious programs and check system configuration

  • Press Windows + R keys together and Type “appwiz.cpl” as shown in the image below:

  • Click on the “Ok” button and windows “Add and Remove program” options will open.
  • Here you need to look for the suspicious entries and remove Cll.Press or any other unknown application.
  • Open Run Box again and Type “Ms Config”. Then press “Ok”. This will open the system configuration as given below:

  • Here, you need to open the “Startup” tab and uncheck the box against the entry that has “Unknown” as its manufacturer.
  • Finally, click on “Ok”.

Step 4: Check Suspicious IP addresses

  • Open the “Run” window by pressing Windows + R button together.
  • Copy and paste following link in the search bar “notepad%windir%/system32/Drivers/etc/hosts”.
  • Now, a new text file will open. In case you are hacked then a bunch of IP addresses will appear at the bottom of the file as shown in the image below:

In case you find any suspicious IPs below the “Localhost” in the opened file then it is confirmed that your system is infected with the malware. Now, you should follow the steps given below:

  • Click on the “Start” button and search “Network Connections”,
  • Right click on the Network Connection you are using.
  • Click on “Properties” followed by Internet Protocol Version 4 (ICP/IP) and click on “properties”.
  • Make sure that the radio button next to the “Obtain DNS server address automatically” is checked.
  • Click on “Advanced” from the bottom of the screen.
  • Open “DNS” Tab and remove everything from here.
  • Finally, click on “Ok”.

Step 5: Remove Cll.Press from your browser

Before we move on to remove cll.press from the browser, have a look at the method to fix the browser’s shortcut.

  • First of all, right click on the chrome browser shortcut and click on “Properties”.

  • Open “Shortcut” tab and remove everything after “.exe” as given in the image below:

  • Click on “Ok”.

Remove Cll.Press from chrome

  • Close Google Chrome and paste the following location in the windows explorer: C:/Users/!!!!USER NAME!!!!/AppData/Local/Google/Chrome/User Data.
  • Here, you will find a folder with the name “Default”.
  • Rename the default folder to “Backup Default” and restart chrome.

Remove Cll.press from Internet Explorer browser.

  • Run Internet Explorer and click on Settings gear icon.
  • Click on “Manage Add-ons” from the drop-down menu.

  • Look for any suspicion add-on and disable it.
  • Click on “Settings gear icon” again and open “Internet Option”.
  • Now, change the URL as per your choice.
